Reduce Toxins/Detoxify

Toxins enter our body through  water, air, food, soil, household products etc. Over 100,000 recognized toxins are in our environment and we are exposed to 100’s everyday. From Carbon Monoxide to industrial wastes in the air, water and food- pesticides, growth hormones and antibiotics in our food-mercury, lead, and chemicals in our cosmetics, soaps and perfumes. Bacterial, viral, yeast and fungal overload burden our bodies and challenge our immune system daily. The average American is bio-accumulating between 3-500 man made chemicals that didn’t even exist before World War II.

Some of the environmental sources of toxic chemicals are difficult, if not impossible, to totally avoid, however we can avoid toxins that cause disease from the food we eat and the water we drink and use certain techniques to assist the body in eliminating toxins. The cells must detoxify in order to function correctly, overcome disease and be healthy.

Food preparation causes toxic overload, browned, charred and burnt food produces carcinogenic compounds, French fries, acrylimide, aluminum and Teflon cookware release residues into the food.

Virtually all water in the US is toxic containing sewage pollutants, industrial chemicals including PCB’s and vinyl chloride, pesticides from agricultural runoff, leakage from gasoline and oil storage tanks, excess aluminum, lead, mercury, copper, asbestos, fluoride (Which has been shown to bio-accumulate and damage the kidneys, bones, teeth, muscles, immune system and genes) and nickel to name just a few. Chlorine is then added to all municipal water supplies to counteract bacterial contamination but it in itself is extremely toxic as it reacts with other compounds in the water to form carcinogenic compounds. Growing body of scientific evidence links toxins to many symptoms and syndromes including behavioral and mental disorders, learning disabilities, fatigue, allergies, headaches, rashes and gastrointestinal disorders. Cancer is by far the most common with almost 50% of people destined to develop it in their lifetime. Numerous scientists have no doubt that this epidemic is being caused by the incredible number of external and internal toxins our cells are exposed to daily.   External toxins-foods, toothpaste, shampoo, carpets,   Newspapers, hair dye and dry cleaning just to name a few Internal Toxins- generated by processed, preserved devitalized and chemicalized food, impure water, Stress and medical treatments and diagnostic  procedures.

How to Detoxify

Eliminate all foods and liquids that contain man made toxins. You must clean up the refrigerator and pantry. Virtually all food packaged in a can, box, jar, plastic wrapper or container has been processed and is likely to contain toxic chemicals both added as preservative, colors, flavor or texture enhancers or due to how the food is produced. The FDA has approved over 3,000 food additives and the average American consumes about 10 lbs of these chemicals per year. Cookies, cakes, pies, candy, all white flour products-including breads, pasta, pretzels and donuts must go. All foods containing white sugar and hydrogenated oils have to be eliminated, and virtually all dairy and meat should be eliminated from the diet. Milk contains numerous bio-accumulated toxins from the cow and is truthfully a toxic soup of pesticides, antibiotics, dioxins, hormones, tranquilizers, bacteria (Gov’t regulations require that after pasteurization milk should contain no more than 20,000 bacteria per milliliter.) Out of  25 milk samples analyzed by Consumer Reports 7 had bacterial counts exceeding 130,000 per milliliter, 1 sample had over 3 million, and many others had just too many to even count) and other contaminants. Meat is identical as a toxic storehouse, not to mention the excess fat and protein it contains. Use whole/natural/organic foods and juices primarily.

Use Nutritional Supplements

In an ideal world with no stress, clean air, water, or food  pollution eating a diet consisting of fresh whole organic foods and clean water supplied in abundance, supplements would probably not be needed. However, reality dictates supplements are necessary for everyone.  To those who say that all supplements do is produce expensive urine, to me expensive urine appears in the bedpan at the hospital or nursing home.

Recent research shows and even the AMA now agrees that basic supplementation (a wide spectrum multiple vitamin/mineral supplement) has the power of delaying many of the signs of premature aging, including immune dysfunction, heart disease, memory loss and joint degeneration.

There is also now ample evidence that certain nutrients are therapeutic for specific illnesses.

Basic & General Supplement Recommendations (individual needs may vary):

      • Multiple vitamin/mineral supplement
      • Vitamin C (for immune system, connective tissue and blood vessels)
      • Vitamin E (for heart, immune system and free radical fighter)
      • Calcium (for nerves, bones and energy)
      • Magnesium (for heart, blood pressure, energy and muscle relaxation)

Daily Antioxidants (individual needs may vary):

      • Coenzyme 10 (for cellular energy, heart cell protection, immune enhancer and possible benefit for diabetes, cancer, parkinsons, Alzheimer and athletic performance)
      • Alpha Lipoic Acid (great free radical scavenger that may help to recycle other antioxidants such as vitamins c and e and co q 10.  May be beneficial in heart disease and diabetes)
      • NAC (N-acetyl cysteine) A precursor to glutathione the number one antioxidant in the body. Protects the liver, cancer fighter in animal studies, may also be of value in heart disease and diabetes.

    Beneficial Oils:

      • Omega Fatty Acids (Omega 3’s found in oily fish, flaxseed and other oils) Olive oil has been found to be beneficial for increasing good cholesterol, reducing inflammation, arthritis, diabetes and other inflammatory conditions such as heart disease and even cancer
      • Extra virgin olive oil is part of the Mediterranean diet and has been shown to inhibit cell toxin formation and prevent atherosclerotic damage.)
*Note: These are general recommendations and may not apply to each individual.
