 WHEEL OF HEALTH

Striving for optimal health requires us to understand how eight different pathways exert their influence on our well being. Each spoke in the “wheel of health” can create the condition for health or disease in the mind, body and spirit. They singularly contribute to our well being and must also be in balance with each other. For those seeking to achieve and maintain their full health potential understanding this holistic and integrative perspective is essential.

Optimal Health

1. Toxins Must be avoided or eliminated from all our bodily cells so they can regain and maintain normal/healthy functioning. Pure water, fresh fruit, vegetables, fruit and vegetable juices, antioxidants, fresh air, deep breathing and perspiring all contribute to detoxification.

2. Nutrition Eliminate devitalized, denatured food products and drinks. Preservatives, colorings, bleaching agents, sugars etc.  all cause cellular stress, inflammation,  immune dysfunction and disease. General Supplements should include a multivitamin, extra B Vitamins, C, E. Omega 3 fatty acids, calcium/magnesium and green tea.

3. Exercise is a great antidote to the stress response. Releases muscular tension, flushes out toxins, causes body to eliminate stress hormones like adrenaline and cortisol, balances blood sugar (high or low causes stress reaction), forces the brain to release calming and feel good chemicals.

4. Energy can be enhanced through massage, yoga, deep rhythmic breathing, meditation, visualization, relaxation techniques, tai chi, chi gong, chiropractic, breath walk etc. All are known to lower blood pressure, increase oxygen consumption, harmonize brain waves

5. Medical (Pharmaceutical/Surgery)  Interventions are sometimes needed to assist the body in overcoming an imbalance that is causing sickness.  The effects on the body/mind of a disease or stressor can be worse than the side effects of medication or surgery. A simple example is how an infectious disease is certainly more dangerous than the  side effects of an antibiotic.

6. Psychological   Negative attitudes and beliefs cause mental stress. Gratitude, love, connection to others (humans and animals) relieve stress and bring balance to our body/mind/spirit. Freely expressing, not repressing also counteracts mental stress.

7. Genetic We all have inherent weaknesses both psychological and physical that have been passed on through our genes. These can remain dormant and non-expressive for sickness and disease if we keep stress at bay, avoid and eliminate toxins, eat healthier, exercise and keep our energy balanced.

*Dr. Kingsbury can offer personalized protocols to strengthen each or all of these pathways to Optimal Health
